The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The total walking distance – which includes summiting Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – is 23 miles, with a total ascent of 11,178 feet.
The borehole and pump have been installed in Beikanateng, a very remote community in the West District of Ghana with a population of around 200 people. Previously, the nearest water source was a dug-out located 500 metres from the community, resulting in many diseases.
William Cook Cast Products Sales Manager James Bestall, who took part in the challenge, said: “It was a very tough, painful, but rewarding challenge with a total of 11,178 feet of climbing and 23 miles hiked, combined with 25 hours in total travelling in a mini bus!
“It probably wasn’t everyone’s idea of a relaxing weekend, but we are proud to have hit our fundraising target and paid for the community’s borehole.”
William Cook, Group Commercial Director, said: “I am impressed by the efforts of the Three Peaks team and heartened by the sums their colleagues pledged in sponsorship. William Cook Cast Products was pleased to cover the costs of the challenge, meaning all money raised in sponsorship went towards the borehole project.”
