In a collaborative effort William Cook Rail re-designed Bombardier's fabricated Flexx Eco bogie frame as a 7 piece cast assembly, fully stress analysed and without weight penalty
William Cook Rail designed the Series 3 Bogie Frame in cooperation with Bombardier Transportation.
Each section is cast and machined in-house before fabrication. To date, 5,500 units have been installed on Electrostar and Turbostar trains, mainly for operators in the UK and South Africa
The William Cook bolsters and half-frames for Alstom’s range of Citadis Spirit light-rail vehicles are among the most complex and high specification cast steel components in the world. Produced at its new £15m plant in Leeds, England, William Cook Rail is supplying in excess of 100 train sets for Ottawa and other Canadian cities.
