Components and systems
William Cook began its association with the heritage rail industry through its heavy involvement in the construction of the A1 Pacific ‘Tornado’, the first new build in the UK since ‘Evening Star’ in 1961. Subsequently, William Cook has manufactured a large variety of castings for a large number of steam locomotive projects.
Castings supplied include driving wheels, horn blocks, frame stays, cylinders, blast pipes and superheater headers. Using modern CNC pattern making techniques and 3D printing technologies, the William Cook group’s modern manufacturing facilities can produce these as single items without exceptional difficulties.
William Cook Rail’s bogie and coupler overhaul workshops are also experienced in the refurbishment of heritage rail components such as ‘Commonwealth’ bogies from the 1950s.
